Our client is an award-winning, leading Barristers’ Chambers, with offices in London and Chelmsford. Chambers enjoys a formidable reputation as a leading set of barristers with expertise across Business Crime & Fraud, Crime, Inquests & Inquiries, Regulatory & Professional Discipline, International, and Public and Administrative Law. With over 100 barristers, members are instructed on many of the most high-profile and complex cases, often with global reach and significant media attention.
Working closely with the Practice Director and wider clerking team, the Practice Manager will play a key role in the effective day-to-day running of Chambers. This is a pivotal position within the clerks’ room, supporting practice management, operational efficiency, and the continued development and promotion of members’ practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- To play a lead role in the day-to-day diary and practice management
- Ensure effective opportunity and fair allocation of work
- Maintain and develop efficient systems for diary, case, and practice management
- Liaise with professional clients to support and promote barristers’ practices
- Ensure accurate and compliant management of case papers and electronic records (GDPR/BSB compliant)
- Support the smooth running of the clerks’ room, including cover and operational efficiency
- Work with members and colleagues on marketing and business development initiatives
- Liaise with the fees team on billing and assist in supporting and developing junior staff
The Person
The successful candidate will ideally have 5-8 years’ experience in a similar environment. They will be highly organised with a strong understanding of chambers’ practice management and clerking operations, particularly in criminal practice areas and will be adept at managing busy diaries. They will possess excellent communication skills, a proactive and collaborative approach, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. A solid understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements, alongside strong attention to detail and sound judgement, is essential.
