Chambers’ Practice Management function is organised into four teams, and this position sits within ‘G-Team’ whose members cover construction, insurance and professional negligence work.
The Senior Practice Manager in each team is responsible for assisting, supporting, and deputising for their team lead Practice Director in the operation and practice management function at Gatehouse Chambers; in the maintenance and development of sources of work for Chambers; in the maintenance and development of client relationships; and, in the development of barristers’ careers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of 2 Practice Managers, to include training, guidance and setting day-to-day priorities and giving regular feedback.
- Leadership, case and diary management for the 25 or so members allocated to your team, and key co-ordination of some of the practice areas allocated to you.
- Conduct fee proposals, negotiation, and agreement
- Through active involvement in practice development meetings, maintain up-to-date knowledge of each barrister’s practice, current work availability, career aspirations, wishes and preferences for practice development and ensuring that information is transmitted to all Practice Managers
- Contribute to the attainment of Chambers’ 2030 vision and to the implementation of policy decisions. In particular, be centrally involved with fair allocation of work initiatives and assisting to implement any recommendations in this regard
Business Development
- Promote Chambers generally and attend internal and external functions such as client events, awards evenings, multi-day BD trips, seminars and other marketing initiatives both in the UK and overseas as appropriate
- Work collaboratively with the BDLT and marketing team to support the many activities of Chambers; the implementation of objectives and strategies as set by team business plans and supporting relevant marketing activities
- Be an ambassador for Chambers, and proactively network, build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with clients across all of Chambers’ practice areas with particular focus on key areas of responsibility within your team
- Make efficient use of market data and information on successes and failures in obtaining work, and the ability to identify potential opportunities
