Our client is an award-winning, leading Barristers’ Chambers, with offices in London and Chelmsford. Chambers enjoys a formidable reputation as a leading set of barristers with expertise across Business Crime & Fraud, Crime, Inquests & Inquiries, Regulatory & Professional Discipline, International, and Public and Administrative Law. With over 100 barristers, members are instructed on many of the most high-profile and complex cases, often with global reach and significant media attention.

Working within a busy and collaborative practice management/clerking team, Chambers is seeking to appoint a Practice Assistant. Working closely with the Practice Director, Barristers, and colleagues, this entry-level role plays a key support function to ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of Chambers. Comprehensive training will be given.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the clerking team with day-to-day diary and practice management
  • Assist with the allocation of work, considering availability and suitability
  • Ensure cases are accurately set up on relevant systems ahead of hearings
  • Liaise with professional clients to support and promote members’ practices
  • Maintain effective systems for case, diary, and compliant document management
  • Attend Chambers seminars/events to assist in promoting Chambers/individuals
  • Provide general administrative support, including reception cover and assisting the fees team as needed

The Person

The ideal candidate will be intelligent, highly organised, proactive, and able to support a busy clerking team in a fast-paced environment. They will possess strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities accurately under pressure. A collaborative, ‘can-do’ approach is essential. A genuine legal interest and some previous experience in another similarly professional environment will be advantageous, but not essential.
