Chambers is now seeking an Assistant Practice Manager to join their forward thinking and friendly team.

The Role:

Reporting to the Senior Clerk and Senior Practice Managers you will oversee, supervise, and train the Junior Clerking Team.  Assisting the clerking team and offering support when necessary, your duties will include:

  • Communicating with instructing solicitors and clients by telephone and email, setting up conferences/calls with solicitors, sending dates to avoid, fixing hearings, conferences and advising solicitors of counsel’s availability.
  • All aspects of diary work including working through the diary to negotiate and agree any fees for forthcoming hearings, chasing up papers and ensuring members are aware of their diary commitments.
  • Providing reasoned quotations for work after liaising with counsel and providing quotes to instructing solicitors, agreeing capped fees and hourly rates.
  • Attendance at Chambers and client functions when necessary.
  • Obtaining court listings and some involvement in the listing of cases.
  • Recording instructions and entering new cases that arrive via telephone, email or Post.
  • Dealing with new enquires from the Clerks’ mailbox and via the telephone on a daily basis.
  • Entering fees and assisting with billing procedures when necessary.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will ideally have a minimum of 2-3 years’ clerking experience or relevant experience gained in a similar environment, excellent spoken and written English communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people at all levels and to create and maintain good working relationships, a willingness to deal effectively with a multi-faceted role and develop your own skills.
