Chambers has 63 barrister members, including 15 King’s Counsel, all of whom are highly regarded for their work in planning, property, public law, local government, housing, community care, licensing, regulatory law, and commercial matters, advising private and public sector clients. Its friendly team of staff are dedicated to providing high standards of service for clients and members.
Chambers is looking to recruit a highly suitable individual to the role of Practice Manager. Joining its highly regarded practice management team, this position will play a vital role in supporting all members of Chambers. The core functions of this role are practice management, practice development, and business development.
Practice Management
- Efficient and accurate diary management and case fixing
- Fee estimating, negotiations and agreement
- Respond promptly, fully, accurately, and politely to all forms of internal and external communications
- Actively participate in practice review meetings
- Contribute to the attainment of any goals or targets that Chambers may adopt
- Be centrally involved in the fair allocation of work initiatives
- Active involvement in BDM initiatives, including client-facing social and professional functions and events
- Develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships with key staff in the courts and other chambers to assist barristers’ practice administration
- Actively manage credit control issues arising in relation to members’ aged debt, where required
- Ensure prompt, accurate and comprehensive data entry to assist the analytical process
- Assist with mentoring and developing more junior team members
Person Specification
- Ideally, an IBC recognised PME/ILM qualification or equivalent
- 3-5 years’ minimum experience (ideally in a similarly successful Chambers’ environment)
- Good understanding of the principles, processes and practices of business development
- Business mindset – Innovative thinking, ability to spot an opportunity, brand aware
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong numeracy and IT literacy
- Excellent organisational, project management skills, and attention to detail
- Ability to delegate effectively whilst retaining responsibility for progress
- Demonstrate leadership and share Chambers’ values
- Set an example for juniors to follow, strong mentoring capability
- Enjoys excellent relationships with colleagues and principals
- Highly trusted and trustworthy
- Adaptable and responsive to feedback
