(699) Senior Practice Manager (Crime Team) – Leading Multi-disciplinary Barristers’ Chambers (London)

Our client, one of the largest and most successful Barristers’ Chambers in the UK, is seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious person to play a key part in running their Crime Practice Team. The successful candidate will have at least 8-10 years of clerking experience or equivalent experience gained in the legal sector within Criminal Law, including diary management, liaising with solicitors and court staff.

The Role:

  • Promoting the team and individual team members with professional clients and other organisations.
  • Together with Director of Clerking, undertaking members’ practice reviews, planning for the appropriate development of their practice and following up on actions from the reviews.
  • Assisting Crime Team Convenors in drafting team’s business plan with assistance from the PMs and lead on implementing the plan.

Business Development

  • Working with the team and individual members to develop business and further team objectives through attending events, networking and developing good relationships with solicitors and other contacts, and developing opportunities and marketing initiatives. Leading on the segmentation strategy for the Crime Team.

Business development duties will include:

  • Handling existing client portfolio and maintaining excellent communication and loyalty.
  • Attending events to network with contacts and develop business
  • Taking active role in organising Crime Team events.

Staff Management

  • Line management of two Crime PMs and Crime Team Assistant.
  • Providing leadership to the Crime Team in the efficient planning and organisation of individual practices on an equal basis.
  • Providing guidance and support to more junior members of the team for the purpose of their development and training.

 Person Specification:

  • 8-10 years of clerking or equivalent experience gained in the legal sector within Criminal Law, including diary management, liaising with solicitors and court staff.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience of managing and developing lawyers’ practices
  • Experience in negotiating case fees.
  • Experience of building and developing professional relationships with solicitors.
  • Experience of building and developing business opportunities in new areas of practice desirable.
