Our client is one of the largest and most successful barristers’ chambers in the UK. Following rapid expansion in recent years, they now have 190 barristers supported by a busy operations team. They are recognised as leaders in criminal defence, civil liberties, housing, immigration, family and public law. Their passion for human rights and social justice has shaped the development of law in these areas over the last 40 years. This is reflected in their ground-breaking cases, which hit the news headlines every week.

Chambers is now seeking an experienced Senior Practice Manager to lead their family team. The successful candidate will have significant clerking experience in a Barristers’ Chambers, ideally dealing with family law.

The Role:

  • Diary and fee management for a designated team of Barristers
  • Promoting the team and individual team members with professional clients and other organisations
  • Negotiating fees and finalising funding for cases including those cases funded privately, by legal aid, CFAs and costs budgeting.
  • Undertaking regular Practice Development Meetings with all members of the team
  • Line managing two junior family team post holders ensuring their performance is satisfactory and provide any necessary “on the job” training
  • Have regular, every six months goal settings with the junior members of the team

Business Development

  • Handling existing client portfolio and maintaining excellent communication and loyalty
  • Attending events to network with contacts and develop business
  • Working closely with Cross-Practice Manager and other Practice Managers for the purpose of expanding the client base and achieving increased instructions from clients that currently do not instruct the public law team
  • Taking active role in organising Family Team events

Person Specification:

  • Ideally 8-10 years of clerking, experience, including diary management, fees negotiation
  • Experience of building and developing business opportunities in new areas of practice
