Our client is a leading Barristers’ Chambers with 69 barristers, including 27 KC’s (‘Silks’). Chambers is highly regarded and has consistent tier 1 rankings in the leading legal directories for its legal and advocacy expertise in each of its specialist practice areas across the whole remit of Commercial and Chancery Law.
Following a period of sustained growth, Chambers now seeks to appoint a highly suitable, personable individual to the newly created position of Head of People and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Reporting directly to the Chambers Director, the has responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of key regulatory and management functions.
The Role:
Key responsibilities will include:
- Pupillage – administrative responsibility for pupillage (traineeship) and mini-pupillage, recruitment processes, compliance processes and detailed record keeping
- Design and delivery of outreach programmes to universities and relevant stakeholders – University Law Societies, careers officers and race and social mobility initiatives
- HR – supporting staff recruitment, creation of contracts, job descriptions, handbooks
- Administration of staff appraisals, training and development and record keeping
- Acting as initial reference point for lower-level staffing issues
- Culture, values, ESG – Assist with the development of culture and values consistent with evolving strategies, including the ongoing review of relevant policies
- Leading the EDI agenda – review of policies, acting as an advocate for change, identifying and arranging any training and development requirements
- Driving and extending Chambers’ CSR project work
- Collecting and monitoring diversity and other data

The successful candidate will have relevant experience gained working in a similar role in a busy and demanding legal/professional services/corporate environment. They will be enthusiastic about developing systems, initiative and processes designed to put people first. They will be clearly committed to the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion. They must be highly personable, well organised and be able to communicate with and positively influence a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
