Our client is a leading London Barristers’ Chambers whose core areas of practice include planning, environment, infrastructure, licensing, compulsory purchase and land valuation, rating, local government, ecclesiastical, regulatory crime and associated aspects of EU law.
This important role is a key part of the practice management team, assisting with the management of individual barristers’ practices and the daily running and development of Chambers as a whole.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Diary and practice management for a designated team of members at all levels of seniority
- Negotiating and agreeing fees with solicitors for court hearings/written work and dealing with fee queries
- Attending practice review meetings and taking minutes; collating figures for the meeting and any other documents required
- Following up queries from clients in relation to new instructions and work
- Obtaining availability and liaising with courts over listing matters including fixings (by phone and in person) with the Supreme Court, all divisions at the High Court, Crown and County Courts, and the Magistrates Court services
- Overseeing and managing the junior clerks and appropriately assigning work
Skills and attributes required:
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience working in a Commercial/Civil Barristers’ Chambers
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Be able to make decisions
- Aptitude for hard work
- Good understanding of IT
- To be self motivated
- Good communication skills
- Attention to detail
- A good knowledge of how systems work within the High Court, Lands Tribunal etc
- Patience and a good sense of humour
