Our client is a leading set of Barristers’ Chambers based in the north of England, specialising in Criminal, Civil and Family law. Chambers has 107 Barristers, including 10 King’s Counsel, and is widely recognised for excellence in advocacy and legal expertise.

Following a thorough review of Chambers fees functions, new positions have been created to work with and support the recently appointed Lead Fees Clerk. We are seeking individuals with some experience as (1) Criminal Fees Clerks and (2) Civil/Family Fees Clerks.

The roles support the delivery of fee-related functions for the Civil/Family and Criminal teams, including effective and timely billing, fee collection, and the continuous development of processes to ensure the effective delivery of chambers’ revenue operations – training will be provided where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Billing & Fee Collection: Process and manage the billing and collection of fees.
  • Legal Aid & Private Fees: Handle fee arrangements for both legally aided and privately funded work, ensuring compliance with funding regulations.
  • Case & Revenue Management: Maintain accurate financial records, monitor outstanding fees, and support barristers in revenue-related queries.
  • Chambers Support: Liaise with barristers, clerks, solicitors, and external agencies to resolve fee matters promptly.
  • Process Improvement: Assist in developing and improving fee management systems and reporting processes.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in billing, fee collection, or financial administration, ideally in a barristers’ chambers or similarly fast paced environment.
  • Knowledge of legal aid billing and public funding processes is desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with case management software (e.g., Chambers Lex) and Microsoft Office.
