Our client, 7BR, is a leading multi-disciplinary Barristers’ Chambers, situated in Bedford Row, WC1. It has 94 Barrister members, including 22 King’s Counsel. Chambers’ main practice areas include Crime, Commercial and Regulatory, Employment, Family, Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence.
Chambers is seeking to recruit an outstanding and ambitious individual to join its highly regarded Crime Team as Practice Manager. In this newly created position, the PM will take direction from the Crime Team Senior Practice Manager and will work collaboratively with team colleagues to offer support and practice management to members of Chambers.
This role and set offers the successful candidate an excellent opportunity for personal and professional development with increased responsibility at this level, compared to other sets of a similar size.
The responsibilities and duties shall include the following:
Practice Administration
- Significant diary and practice management of the members of the crime team
- Allocation of work fairly to members (appropriate for the instruction).
- Negotiating privately funded fees, subject to discussion with the barrister concerned and/or the senior practice manager; billing for publicly funded work
- Managing instructions, briefs and recording of e-mails.
- Extensive telephone liaison with instructing solicitors and courts;
- Being fully conversant with Direct Access procedures and policies;
Marketing and Business Development
- Supporting the senior practice managers in Chambers’ business development activities;
- Build and nurture client relations, including attending events and meeting clients outside normal office hours
- Maintaining good relations with court staff;
- Seeking feedback from clients as part of general conversations and providing input to barristers in the development of their practices.
Supporting the Senior Practice Manager
- Advising and supporting individual barristers on the development of their practice, including practice review meetings
- Generating basic monthly reports on Lex for barristers as required for Practice Management and Development.
Specific Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Three years plus practice management experience
- Educated to, at minimum, three A levels (or the equivalent diploma)
- Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Barristers
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients.
- Ability to work under own initiative, but with a strong team ethic.
- Well-presented, articulate, accurate and able to explain complex issues clearly, even when under pressure.
- Ambitious, driven, diligent.
